Start your new venture in recording your own life’s remembrances
Welcome
At Stories-Tidings, we are constantly thinking of how to get you started on your journey in writing and recording your thoughts and insights on your life experiences. We all have something to say about the many things that we have experienced. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible in authoring your story and recollections of the people and events that have occurred throughout your life. This site is specifically designed as a place for you to record your life experiences. You will be able to write, upload recordings, videos, and pictures. We ask that you enter these life experiences as true to the facts as you can. This is not the place air grievances and negative comments in a way that would cause harm to anyone. You are solely responsible for the content of your post. If your posts are in violation of the site rules they will be removed. There are negative events that happen in everyone’s life, and we do not expect you to not speak of them. This is the place to express yourself and if you wish to share your stories with others on this site you can choose that option as well. You will also be able to post pictures, GIFS, drawings, short films, and voice recordings that are related to your stories. With our team of helpful contributers, we have positioned ourselves with some great people to help you get started and to help you to continue to grow in expressing your stories. If you need one on one advice, we can put you in contact with someone to assist you.
When you remember me, it means that you have carried something of who I am with you, that I have left some mark of who I am on who you are. It means that you can summon me back to your mind even though countless years and miles may stand between us. It means that […]
Here is the truth behind systemic racism In 1866, one year after the 13th Amendment was ratified (the amendment that ended slavery), Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina began to lease out convicts for labor (peonage). This made the business of arresting Blacks very lucrative, which is why hundreds of […]
(“Metaphors for Life” essays, poems, proverbs, adages and memes have been around since long before the internet, Pintrest, Google or even Gutenberg. Some are clever, some are cute, some are comforting and some are just corny. Although they are occasionally criticized as ‘oversimplifications’, they are not really intended to be anything more than allegorical summaries […]
The Old Green Door was a shop that sold items appealing to the alternative lifestyles of young women and long-haired male hippie types, located in Glen Park, Indiana, across the street from the Glen Park Music store. It was a gathering place to meet and discuss whatever was on our minds at the moment. The […]
“The Last Time…” Obviously true, but how could anyone ever possibly be expected to know? I suppose that we can never be absolutely certain about such things… but with advancing age and expanding experience… we may now develop a keener sense of what ‘could be’ a ‘last time’ for such easily-overlooked, seemingly-inconsequential episodes […]
THE HALF – CENTURY CHALLENGE By Marty Marciniak (PHOTO 1: I was twenty-three when this photograph was taken. Hair styled by: Gravity…. and the Prevailing Winds! PHOTO 2: So, a full Half-Century later… The same motorcycle… the same guitar (a 1971 Martin D-18)… the same me.] [The ‘Ten-Year Challenge’ was a simple social-media fad that went […]
THE “SWEET SPOT” Gotta give a shout-out to the blind-luck of the Boomers, who just happened to hit the ‘Sweet Spot’ on America’s evolutionary time-line, to have been ‘coming of age’ during the mid-1950’s through the mid-1970’s. Cool… very cool. The curtain rose on a victorious nation as it wore plaid Bermuda […]
I am just a pilgrim on this road, boysThis ain’t never been my homeSometimes the road was rocky ‘long the way, boysBut I was never travelin’ aloneWe’ll meet again on some bright highwaySongs to sing and tales to tellBut I am just a pilgrim on this road, boysUntil I see you fare thee wellAin’t no […]
ROAD TRIP 1971 In the summer of 1971 I had the opportunity to go on my first real ‘road trip’. I had graduated high school in June with no plans for anything: no continuing education, no job, nothing. I had sent a graduation notice to a family friend of my parents, and he […]

I have been to Ireland twice – once in 2003 and most recently this spring. These are two of my favorite photos. Becky is a young woman now but 20+ years ago she was a lass feeding the cats in the barn of her grandmother’s B&B where we stayed. This gentleman was nursing his Guinness […]
MEMORIES OF MRS. JOHNETTA CLARK During the academic school year of 1963-1964 I was in the fifth grade, attending Kuny Elementary in Gary, Indiana. This time period was to prove to be momentous for a number of reasons, both personally and world wide. As everyone is aware in November 1963 President John Kennedy […]
January 1, 1966 During my senior year of high school at Lew Wallace in Gary, Indiana, I received my draft notice to report to Chicago on July 1 for my Army physical. “In 1966, the US Army conducted Vietnam draft physicals in Chicago at various locations. These physicals were part of the Selective Service process […]
The Ancient Pueblo people, over two thousand years ago, began to flourish in the Four Corners area of the United States, comprising southern Utah, northern Arizona, northwest New Mexico, and southern Colorado. They built homes, called “Pueblos” (“villages” in Spanish) stone and adobe dwellings along tall cliffs, and were inaccessible without tall ladders. During enemy […]
California Dreamin’ For a number of years in the early to mid 1970’s my brother Dan moved around the country a lot, from Indiana to Florida to Colorado to Arizona to California, before he finally ended up in Washington state in 1979. In 1976 he was living in Escondido, California. Since […]
I may be just an acorn dreaming but no matter what, may the creative force of infinite beauty and love bless, heal, and inspire you today! One hand releases a magical pill, radiant with the potential of psychological and spiritual well-being. One hand needing healing is outstretched, reaching hopefully for relief that can cure the […]
A John Singleton Copley painting. Christians believe that Jesus ascended into heaven after his death on the cross and resurrection. In Islam, it is believed that he ascended to heaven while still alive. The Marathi poet-saint Tukaram is taken up into Vishnu’s heaven, Vaikunth, “the eternal heavenly realm”, and is the “divine imperishable world […]
“Hey Johnny ! I Got My SWOC Button!” By Marty Marciniak The old ‘bluebird’ Chevy chugged past the Jefferson Hotel, lurched onto Third Avenue, and parked across from the South Shore track yard. Leon hailed the driver. “Hey, Michal!” he called, “Where’s Johnny?” “Pa’s got him workin’ on the chicken coop, so he […]
